Kelly Watton will share with us via Zoom about “Reading into the Future: Advocating for a Solid Foundation in Literacy."
We will look at the way cognitive science says kids learn to read, the many ways schools teach reading, some of the ideas about how children with Down syndrome learn to read, the five essential components of a reading program, and structured literacy programs. Having information about what type of programs schools are using and what research says about how kids with Down syndrome learn to read, will help you better understand your child's needs and better communicate with your child's team to get the support your child needs.
